US withdrawal from Syria to start within weeks
US General Votel said that the withdrawal order of President Donald Trump will likely start being executed within weeks
US Army General Joseph Votel, Head of Central Command announced that the withdrawal of American troops from Syria will likely start within weeks, with the exact timeframe depending on the situation in Syria.
General Votel said that "they were right on track with where they want to be" in terms of the withdrawal of ground forces.
Being asked about the current status of the process, Votel answered: "Moving people is easier than moving equipment and so what we're trying to do right now is again to kind of clear out those materials, that equipment, that we do not need."
The general left questions regarding when the procedure would be finished, without response.
Votel further said that it is unlikely that forces withdrawn from Syria will move to Iraq. Refering to the future number of American soldiers in Iraq he said "I think it's going to remain more or less steady. This isn't just wholesale - 'Everybody in Syria move over to Iraq.' That doesn't make sense".
