The US Embassy in Baghdad said that the US State Department has asked all government officials, whose work is not related to emergency operations, to leave Iraq.

"The US State Department ordered the evacuation of government employees, whose work is not linked to emergency operations, including from the embassy in Baghdad and the consulate in Erbil,” the statement said.

The US State Department has issued guidelines urging its employees to follow them, including leaving as quickly as possible through commercial transport, avoiding US installations inside Iraq, reviewing personal security measures, monitoring local news, and maintaining caution.

The embassy added that the provision of visa services will be temporarily suspended.

The US military announced on Tuesday that "the situation of US forces in Iraq is on alert because of possible threats by the Iranian-backed forces in the region,” declaring that they are "watching certain threats , which may be imminent for US forces in Iraq.”
