Qatar: Bahrain Air Force violates our sovereignty and we will take our action in response

The Qatari government has accused the Bahraini forces of violating their sovereignty through continuous breaches of the airspace of Qatar, stressing the right to retaliate and its determination to take the necessary measures to stop these violations.

Qatar told the UN Security Council and UN Secretary-General António Guterres that "a Bahraini air force plane violated Qatari airspace without the prior permission of the competent Qatari authorities on Thursday, December 27, 2018," Qatar News Agency reported, according to a message from the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN, Alia Ahmed Bin Saif Al Thani.

"The Government of the State of Qatar draws the attention of the Security Council, in accordance with the provisions of articles 34 and 35 of the Charter of the United Nations, and calls upon it to take the necessary measures to put an end to the deliberate Bahraini violations in order to preserve international peace and security in accordance with the provisions of the Charter,” he said.

"The continued violations by the Kingdom of Bahrain and its violation of Qatari sovereignty, and the grave violations constitute a flagrant violation of international law, as well as continuing attempts to incite incidents that increase tension in the region and without regard to the security and stability of the State of Qatar."

"The State of Bahrain strongly condemns this illegal act as a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar. The Kingdom of Bahrain has assumed responsibility for the breach, stressing its commitment to international conventions, the Charter of the United Nations and international law."

Qatar will "take the necessary measures to defend its borders, airspace and sea and its national security, in accordance with international laws and regulations," the Qatari delegate said.

This escalation comes amid the continuing Gulf crisis that erupted after the announcement of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt on June 5, 2017 cut diplomatic relations with Qatar with the imposition of political and economic boycott on the emirate.

The Qatari government has repeatedly accused similar abuses of the UAE authorities.
