Putin: Russia is not fire brigade, Iran should rather stay in the nuclear agreement

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that it is better for Iran to stay in the nuclear agreement and not to leave it under any circumstances, because everyone will forget later that Washington was the first one to withdraw from the agreement and everyone will accuse Tehran.

"I have said many times in talks with our Iranian partners that, in my opinion, Iran should rather remain in this agreement,” Putin said in a joint press conference with his Austrian counterpart Alexander van der Belen.

"The Americans have come out and the agreement is collapsing, while the European countries can not do anything to save them and they are unable to take effective action with Iran to compensate for its losses in the economic sector,” Putin said.

"But once Iran takes the first steps to respond, the withdrawal will be announced. The next day, everyone will forget that the United States was already the one who initiated the sabotage of the agreement. Iran will be blamed until world public opinion is deliberately pushed in this direction,” Putin said.

Putin expressed his regret over what is happening to Iran's nuclear agreement, stressing that Russia can not play the role of "rescue squad" on a permanent basis on the world stage.

"Russia is not a fire brigade and we are unable to save everything, especially when things are not entirely based on our will,” he said.

Putin stressed Moscow's readiness "to play the same positive role that Russia played previously, but it depends not only on us, but on all partners, all players, including the United States, European countries and Iran.”
