French President Macron on April 9 visited the Bicetre Hospital fighting against the Corona Virus in Paris. The footage shared by the official Twitter account with the caption “Support for our heroes with white aprons at the Bicetre Hospital” shows Macron and medical staff applauding in support for health workers.
But what happened prior to the footage shared by the Elysee Palace was far more different. The real incident was revealed by Isabelle Bernard, anesthetist and department chief of the General Confederation of Labour at the hospital.
According to Bernard talking about what happened before the footage that was shared, a worker at the hospital expressed to Macron her discontent about working conditions. After this the medical staff applauded to express support to this worker and other health workers around the country.
However, the official account of the Elysee Palace only shared the second part and ignored the complaints of the worker and medical staff.
It is being reported that the worker described it as a “shame” that the whole incident was not recorded and said that there are more important things to think about and to do.
Bernard said the following about the incident at the hospital: “Our goal was definitely not to celebrate the arrival of Macron. That worker talked about our conditions and the problems we face, adding that we have been striking for months and no one has heard us. It is a shame that thousands have to die before someone starts worrying about health.”
Bernard pointed out that working conditions of medical staff have been bad even before the coronavirus pandemic.
Bernard continued her complaints: “First there were no masks and now there are not even gowns, there is no coordination. Everytime we open a new department we have to figure out new ways to protect ourselves against the virus.”
