Ankara is not in contact with the Syrian regime: Turkish Presidency Spokesman

A spokesman for the Turkish presidency, Ibrahim Kalın, said that a de facto safe zone is formed on the Syrian border, while denying any contacts with his government with the authorities in Damascus.

"The current situation in the Syrian province of Idlib must be maintained,” he said in a press conference on Thursday.

"The safe area on the Syrian border has been effectively formed,” he added.

He stressed that the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif to Ankara is not to mediate between Turkey and the Syrian regime and there are no such endeavors.

"We are not in contact with the Syrian regime,” he said.

On the other hand, he pointed out that his country is making "intensive efforts to end the war and the formation of a committee to draft the constitution and ensure the political transition through the elections within the integrity and unity of Syrian territory.”
